Quo vadis nephrology?

A rapid overview of the history of nephrology will be useful to understand what its future will be like. What are the challenges awaiting us and, more specifically, what are the paths that young nephrologists need to follow 
to make their contribution to this important area of internal medicine? These are all questions to ask ourselves but also commitments which we need to make to avoid the decline of a specialty which is of utmost 
importance in the modern internal medicine.
